Typically swimmers are split into four teams: boys, girls, JV and varsity. However this year, the swimmers were split up into only three teams: boys, girls and co-ed.

Anyone watching the meet could have spotted a Washington swimmer. As the girls varsity team hopped into the pool wearing ballerina tutus, while the boys varsity team wore bikini tops along with their speedos.

“It was a lot of fun,” senior Jocelyne Yamaguchi said. “We never get to fool around during swim meets because they’re always serious and we’re always focused on lowering our times.”

Despite the difficulty of some of the events, the swimmers still had an immense amount of fun.

“The t-shirt relay was pretty much awesome,” sophomore Caitlin Yamaguchi said. “We figured out a fast technique, that other schools eventually copied. My relay won by a lot.”

Front Page

Ok. I haven’t written that many articles, but I’m pretty sure you really can’t have a picture with a title, but no story. On the front page of the January issue, we had exactly that. There was the title “Haiti Earthquake Kills and Destroys”, and the picture right below it. However, there is no story. It is the sauce on a meal, but there is no story to fill it out. It’s not even dealt with in the Harrower. Which is pretty scary. On the flip side, though, the form of the article “ASB Encourages Freshmen to Give Back”, by Brian Jeon and Nicole Doan, has a risky form called the raw wrap, mentioned on page 49 of the Harrower. Essentially, the text wraps around the headline/writer’s name. It’s a risky move, but Nicole and Brian pulled it off well.

On page three, there is some trouble with the editorial. The set-up was irregular, as it was formatted to wrap around Brian’s picture. This act led to the weird spacing in and between the words. This time, the raw wrap didn’t work here. It just made this article look awkward. Which it isn’t. However, Jimmy’s column is a perfect example of a vertically situated article, mentioned first in the Harrower, page 49. It really makes the page look very clean and cut nicely.

2.-Not everyone wants to go to prom. Prom can be very stressful. It can be awkward and expensive, and planning is time-consuming. Even those who want to go prom may not be able to. There are a lot of other activities you can do instead of going to prom.

“Instead of prom, you can go see a movie with your family or friends. Even better, you can have a party at your house,” senior Kevin Nganga said.

Seeing a movie is cheaper and less socially awkward. Yet, seeing a movie is not the best alternative. You don’t get the chance to socialize with others while watching the movie, which is one of the reasons why people go to prom.

You could instead hold a party at your house. There would be more activities to do at your house, like watching movies, playing games and, obviously, socializing. It wouldn’t be as cheap as a movie, but if you are looking for a packed house, look no further. Also, you have the choice to go formal or not. If you really wanted to go to prom, then you could have a formal party at your house.

If the only reason you are going is because you really like a particular girl or boy, then just ask your potential date out. By going on a private date, you won’t feel awkward around the person’s giggling friends, and you won’t have to feel self-conscious about your dancing. In addition, a simple date would give you the privacy focus on each other and to talk about whatever you want.

These are all alternatives to going to prom. Keep in mind that these are just the basics. They will get you started on crafting the ultimate alternative to prom.

“I just want to get [school] over with. Get in and get out,” sophomore Zapata Guadalupe said.

Not only will we lose time after school, we may lose time during school. Specifically brunch and READ. We use brunch to get stuff from our lockers and obtain snacks to fuel our brain, and READ to expand our reading horizon.

“I’m strongly against it because I’d rather be [at school] earlier than we are,” Junior Juan Rodriguez said.

Also, what about the parents? Many Huskies get rides from their parents, myself included. What would happen if it was late start every day?

“I think [the school’s starting and end time] is fine the way it is. It is great to have that catch up time on Monday. But going to school an hour later every day will just cause them to stay up later,” mother Kristi Caracappa said.
